For the past three months, Liz has been counseling Luis, a twenty-one-year-old young adult with mild mental retardation. Liz is a first-semester counseling intern. Counseling was initiated to ensure that Luis made appropriate personal adjustments as he transitioned from school to a work environment. Luis is competitively employed (i.e., a paid employee) in a supported work program in a grocery store in the community. He has good social skills, relates well to his co-workers, and can perform basic activities of daily living.
