David is a mental health counselor in Oregon. He is of American Indian descent and he has worked as a mental health counselor for the past two years. His primary caseload is with clients who have severe mental illness and who are American Indians. David has fairly frequent conflicts with his supervisor over what the supervisor considers to be sharing too much information, or sharing information that the client theoretically cannot handle. For example, David has given feedback to clients that they were not being responsible in changing their lives despite having severe mental illness. David's supervisor has indicated that he feels such feedback is not helpful because this population cannot always control their behaviors.
