Every therapy movement, indeed every movement, typically begins by railing against the excesses or inadequacies of what preceded it. And the postmodern turn in psychotherapy is no exception. In its case, the excesses and inadequacies of modernism itself are held up as the source of the evils, ills, and woes of the so-called postindustrial era. Of course, the postmodern movement, like all prior movements, professes itself to provide, if not the solution to the problems it defines, at least a better alternative.
