One of the main aims of this book has been to show the diverse origins and applications of cosmopolitan theory and to demonstrate its utility for understanding contemporary societies in the globalising world. We hope readers have come to understand that although it is the case that cosmopolitanism has emerged as a popular and powerful way to understand contemporary social change, there remain a number of important cautions, caveats and limitations with the concept's use.
