Ilya Prigogine in 1997 reminded us that humanity has gone through three major hurts to its pride: First, Copernicus demonstrated that the earth is not the center of the universe; second, Darwin argued that humans are an evolutionary species of animal; and third, Freud explained human behavior as being governed by biological drives and the unconscious, rather than strictly by reason (Prigogine, 1997; Wallerstein, 1999).
