Children show many different signs and symptoms of sexual abuse. In this chapter you will learn the different signs to look for if you think your child might be being abused. Understand that just because a child displays one or more of these symptoms, it does not necessarily mean they are being sexually abused. Some of the behaviors are ones that any child might display on occasion. Some of the behaviors might be a reaction to some other traumatic event in the child's life. For instance, many children go through periods of having nightmares; by itself, this symptom should not be taken to mean that sexual abuse has occurred.
