Introduction
Within the theoretical frameworks introduced in Chapter 2, coach mentors deploy various skills in order to help the client achieve the agreed purpose of the coaching mentoring session or program. As noted, the most important success factor is to establish a good relationship between the coach mentor and client. Once this is in place, then the coach mentor can make use of appropriate skills to help their client think, identify options and make choices. In this chapter, we will examine the most important skills of coaching and mentoring, viz. observation, listening, questioning, goal setting and feedback.
