Introduction
Given the huge investment of time, personal commitment and expense in coaching and mentoring, it would be useful to understand what success looks like. Of course, the answer to this question will vary from one individual to another and from one organisation to another. Nevertheless, previous research identifies a number of critical success factors which will be discussed in this chapter.
There are several ways to evaluate the effectiveness of the coaching and mentoring process. These vary from evaluation sheets similar to those used for training (so-called ‘happy sheets’) to pre- and post-psychological measurements, and attempts to measure the return on investment, considering impact at the organisational level. These approaches will be discussed below.
