In 1993, the issue of lesbian and gay youths was covered in New York Magazine (Ranindorf, 1993), Vanity Fair (“The Gay Nineties,” 1993), Newsweek (Beck, Glick, & Annin, 1993), and the Los Angeles Times (Stein, 1993). Several of the stories claimed that being gay or lesbian was chic and in style.
