As we sped to West Hollywood on Halloween, we took our usual positions. Barry was behind the wheel and I sat next to him, absentmindedly channel surfing on the radio. West Hollywood, a gay enclave in Southern California, reportedly was one of the better places to be on Halloween night. The larger-than-normal traffic jam in which we soon became enmeshed made it apparent that others thought as we did. Eventually we parked the car and walked to the parade route as did thousands of other individuals.
