As we sped to West Hollywood on Halloween, we took our usual positions. Barry was behind the wheel and I sat next to him, absentmindedly channel surfing on the radio. West Hollywood, a gay enclave in Southern California, reportedly was one of the better places to be on Halloween night. The larger-than-normal traffic jam in which we soon became enmeshed made it apparent that others thought as we did.
