The term mass in mass tourism denotes quantity or simply many in numbers and is often used for prescheduled tours for groups of tourists who prefer to travel together. They normally have similar interests or purposes, for example, for recreation or sightseeing, and are dependent on tour operators or tourism professionals for the organization and execution of mass tours. Thus, the main characteristic of mass tourism that can be used to distinguish it from other forms of tourism is based on its linkage to mass production, mass consumption, and mass visitation.
