WikiLeaks is an organization dedicated to the acquisition and public distribution of classified or sensitive government and business information via its website and through various global media outlets. WikiLeaks disclosures have incited debates over the role of intelligence gathering and government surveillance in free societies.

Founded by Julian Assange in 2007 with its principal headquarters in Iceland, WikiLeaks is radically decentralized, with volunteers throughout the world collaborating online to create an international whistleblowing organization. WikiLeaks exposes what it believes are both unethical attempts by government agencies to hide information from the general public and unnecessary information obtained through widespread surveillance.
