The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is a collaboratively produced and maintained resource documenting facts about films, television shows, and celebrities, as well as public reactions and opinions. IMDb aims to be “the world’s most popular and authoritative source” (IMDb, n.d.) for content concerning the entertainment industry. Indeed, search engine queries on a movie or television show title or the name of a celebrity typically display IMDb among the top results. As of late 2016, IMDb.com enjoyed an Alexa global rank of 59, outranking competing sites such as Fandom and Rotten Tomatoes, which attests to its popularity with an international audience.
