Shari’a
Literally, shari’a means a pathway. Yet technically, shari’a is often (mis)understood and translated as law in Western conceptions. However, there are significant differences between shari’a and law. In one sense, shari’a is broader than the law and in another sense, shari’a is less than the law. Shari’a can be regarded as broader than the law because it regulates all aspects of Islamic life: From the moment Muslims wake up in the morning till the moment they go to sleep at night; from the relationship of someone with themselves, with their God, with their family, with nature, to their relationship with society.
