  • A massive open online course (MOOC) is a model for delivering learning content online to a large number of students. These are online courses with unrestricted participation and open accessibility. MOOCs gained popularity during the early 2010s, when some universities in the United States began to work with businesses to create online courses that could be available to a very large number of students. Later, private MOOC provider companies, with their own online platforms, were established, and they worked with universities and other instructors in various ways to produce online courses.
