Technology and Families/Marriage

There are several issues that emerge in couples and families related to technology. Common technology issues that emerge in couples counseling include any issue that creates some impairment in intimacy, how intimacy is expressed online, how it is constructed using the Internet, and how the Internet and new information technologies affect the development of intimacy. Online intimacy problems disrupt a couple’s level of self-disclosure and partner responsiveness. This includes, but is not limited to, cybersex, online infidelity, online pornography usage, and online addiction (in some cases specific to sex addiction fueled by the Internet). Other issues experienced by couples include a limited amount of shared time together, issues concerning video gaming, the emergence of suspicion and jealousy in a relationship, accountability, and monitoring of one ...
