National Basketball Association (NBA)

The National Basketball Association (NBA) operates a major professional basketball league with teams in both the United States and Canada. The NBA is considered the premier professional basketball league in the world and one of the major professional sports leagues in both the United States and Canada. During the 2013–14 season, 29 teams were based in the United States, and 1 was based in Canada. Founded in August 1949 in New York City, the NBA was the result of a merger between the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and the National Basketball League (NBL).
