The sequencing of the human genome and the advent of current technological advances in molecular biology have resulted in a plethora of new and fascinating information about human genetics. Genetic studies, coupled with research in history, anthropology, geography, demography, linguistics, and biomedicine, have shed new light on human origins and disease susceptibility. In particular, it has afforded persons of African descent in North America an avenue to begin recovering their history concerning their origins, which were largely lost during the transatlantic slave trade.
