Sponsored by the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College, the National Black Writers Conference (NBWC) is convened to provide emerging and established writers, literary scholars, critics, agents, publishers, and booksellers, as well as the general public, with a venue for sharing the writing published by Black writers; for discussing the trends and themes in the literature produced by Black writers and for identifying the major issues and challenges faced by Black writers and those who publish, market, and sell their work. Its intent is also to provide a venue for students and community residents to meet and gain firsthand experience with artists and writers devoted to capturing the African diasporic experience through literary and rhetorical scholarship.
