Evidence suggests that libation may have been sacred to Africans dating to the beginning of the Holocene era, some 11,000 years ago, and perhaps even before then. It is a powerful moment of profound significance in which divinity and ancestors are invoked, the environment acknowledged, and all Africans in all the generations within the entire time and space of the African experience of living—Africans in the past, in the present, and in the future—are spiritually brought together and united before the invoked forces.
