Gender Socialization and Categorization

Gender socialization refers to how men and women in a society learn to relate to others in accordance with the gender roles that are normative for that society. Gender categorization refers to how men and women in a society are accorded statuses according to the roles they play. In indigenous African societies, as elsewhere, men and women are socialized according to their cultures and traditions. It is in the languages of Africa that the cultures, traditions, and customs of indigenous African societies are contained and represented.
