Dunham Technique is an African Caribbean dance technique bearing the name of its creator, Katherine Dunham. Dunham, labeled by some the Black matriarch of modern dance, is known for her world-renowned dance company, her contributions to dance anthropology, her schools of performing arts and humanities, and her work as a world activist. Notably, she is celebrated for her world-renowned Africanist modern dance pedagogy called Dunham Technique, which is a vibrant fusion of African American, Caribbean, modern, and European dance styles, and also incorporates Eastern philosophies.
