Carnival is a distinctive annual festival made up of a number of rites and ceremonies that typically unfold over several weeks. The term may also refer to the season of the festival, the main day of the festival, and the type of songs associated with it, as well as a certain festive or carefree attitude expressed in the gaiety that is a hallmark of the season.
