Africatown (also called AfricanTown, AfricaTown, or Africa Town) is an Alabama community established by West Africans who were kidnapped and brought to the United States illegally aboard the Clotilda—the last documented slaving ship to reach North America. This Gulf Coast settlement is located approximately 3 miles north of Mobile, Alabama, on a hill by the Alabama River in an area now known both as Plateau and as Magazine Point.
