Africana Sociocultural Heritage

This entry focuses on what is referred to here as the Africana sociocultural heritage. It uses selected examples of African cultural continuity drawn largely from the history, culture, and language of Songhoy civilization—the last of West Africa’s great classical empires. Focal points include historical, cultural, and linguistic examples of African cultural unity through Songhoy’s origins, legacy, and language. The evidence presented documents the relevance of Songhoy civilization to the Africana sociocultural heritage of African Americans in the African diaspora.
