The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) was published in 1943 by the University of Minnesota Press. Since then, subsequent versions of the test have been created and published including the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2; 1989), the MMPI-Adolescent (1992), and the MMPI-2-Restructured Form (2008). All these tests are standardized psychometric self-report questionnaires designed to assess a number of personality patterns and psychological disorders. This entry focuses on the MMPI-2, given that it is the most frequently used personality assessment tool in clinical psychological evaluations, it is commonly utilized for a variety of nonclinical purposes, and it has a substantial research base documenting its reliability and validity.
