Physical Activity and Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus is a group of diseases that if untreated, result in high blood glucose, also known as high blood sugar. Despite impressive advances in scientific understanding and diabetes treatment, the problem appears to be getting worse instead of better. Diabetes is increasing rapidly in both developed and developing countries. It is one of the most serious and costly chronic diseases leading to numerous long-term complications and premature death. The management of diabetes requires significant attention to lifestyle choices. Physical activity and diet, possibly in combination with medications, form the basis of effective treatment of diabetes.
