In promoting positive well-being and maintaining healthy lifestyles, families must work together to ensure that the needs of all family members are met accordingly. In general, well-being refers to a sense of contentment, good quality of life, and overall good physical and mental health. For families, maintaining health and well-being is a collective effort whereby routines are established, relationships are formed that foster health in others, and quality of life is promoted when better health is experienced by multiple members of the household. This entry focuses on ways that families are collectively responsible for maintaining health for multiple members of the household rather than for their own personal health only.
