Raising Children in a Diverse Society

Parents in the United States raise their children and transmit values to them in various ways because the United States is a diverse society. Child rearing is the process of bringing up children, supporting their development, and helping them function adequately in their communities and societies. In many societies, parents have long-term and short-term goals for raising their children. Universally, parents strive for the survival and health for their children; they want their children to attain capabilities to achieve economic well-being. In industrialized nations such as the United States, where economic success tends to be associated with educational attainment, academic success is an important goal that parents set for their children compared with agrarian societies where parents tend to expect their children to provide labor. ...
