International Gender Equity Education

Education is generally accepted as the key means to attain knowledge, social status, and economic advancement. This entry focuses on four aspects of gender equity: the benefits of education for women, the current conditions of education for female and male students, the academic performance of girls and boys, and national and global policies targeting gender equity in education.

Benefits of Education for Girls and Women

Empirical research shows that a wide array of benefits derive from educating women. Educational capital results in better situations for families and children, reflected in lower fertility rates, lower infant mortality, fewer teenage pregnancies, better child nutrition and health, and more schooling for children, especially daughters.
