Miller, Walter B. (1920–)
Walter B. Miller was born in 1920 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his master's degree in anthropology in 1950 from the University of Chicago. From this field, Miller would develop his appreciation of conducting research by direct observation of people in their natural settings, called ethnography. He went on to complete his Ph.D. in Social Relations at Harvard University in 1954.
Miller worked as a researcher on various projects, including the Fox Indian Applied Anthropology Project, which looked at Native American political organization (1948–1952). Soon after, he was involved in a study of public health practices with the Harvard School of Public Health (1953–1955), where he collaborated with Dr. Benjamin D.
